Where Do You Sleep on Kilimanjaro 2025–2026?

November 25, 2025 • 2 min read

Two Options – We Make Both Comfortable

1. Camping (Lemosho, Machame, Rongai, Northern Circuit)

99 % of our climbers choose camping because it’s quieter, more scenic, and feels like a real expedition.

What you actually get:

  • High-quality 4-season mountain tents (2 climbers per tent – plenty of room)
  • Thick, comfortable foam mattresses (8 cm)
  • Private toilet tent (yes, a real flushing toilet just for your group)
  • Full dining tent with table, chairs, and hot meals
  • Your tent is already pitched and your duffel waiting inside when you arrive

2. Marangu Route – The “Coca-Cola” Route (huts)

The only route with fixed dorm-style huts.

  • Wooden bunks with thin mattresses
  • Shared rooms (4–20 people)
  • Solar lights & communal dining halls
  • No camping gear to carry

Perfect if you hate tents, but expect snoring and zero privacy.

How to Stay Warm (This Is the Real Secret)

Nights at Barafu or Crater Camp can hit -15 °C to -20 °C with wind chill.

Our proven sleep system:

  1. Sleeping bag rated -15 °C / 5 °F or lower (rent ours for $50 – clean & warm)
  2. Fleece or silk sleeping bag liner (+5–8 °C extra warmth)
  3. Dry base layer + warm socks + beanie just for sleeping
  4. Hot water bottle in your bag (we fill it every night – game changer)
  5. Tomorrow’s clothes + boots inside the bag so they’re not frozen in the morning
  6. Never sleep in damp clothes

Do this and you’ll actually sleep. Skip it and you’ll shiver all night.

Real Client Quote (September 2025)

“I was terrified of freezing at Barafu. The hot water bottle and the thick mattress made it the coziest night of the whole trip. Slept like a baby.”

– Alex, Canada
