Rise at 1:00 a.m. for a thrilling climb up Ol Doinyo Lengai. Your driver will take you to the volcano’s base, where you’ll begin a strenuous 7- to 12-hour trek, depending on your fitness. The steep slopes demand caution, especially in the dark, so stay close to your guide. Pause every 100 meters to acclimatize, and enjoy a breakfast break to recharge. At the crater’s edge (2,960 m), witness the mesmerizing sound of flowing lava within the "Mountain of God." The descent requires care to avoid injuries, and swapping your fleece for a sun hat at dawn helps prevent heatstroke.
At the base, your driver awaits with refreshing cold drinks, ready to take you back to the camp for a quick shower and lunch before your return to Arusha.
